ALPS King Kong Camping Chair

9.0/10 Our verdictHands-on tested · not gifted

Big-and-tall done right. Around $70-80, holds 800 lbs, and it's way more comfortable than the cheap Coleman ones. Three years in and mine is still going strong.

Why it's the big-and-tall pick

For big-and-tall camping chairs, the ALPS Mountaineering King Kong is solid. It's around $70-80, holds 800 lbs, and it's way more comfortable than the cheap Coleman chairs that sag and creak. I've had mine for three years and it's still going strong — which is the real test for camp gear.

Want a higher back? The Kijaro Dual Lock is also a good option if you want more back support — just know it's bulkier to carry.

What I liked

  • 800 lb weight capacity
  • Genuinely comfortable seat
  • Still solid after 3 years
  • Reasonable price

What to know

  • Bulky to pack and carry
  • Heavier than ultralight chairs
  • Not a backpacking chair
  • Cup holder is basic
