Why the cheap resin fails on tumblers
I've been using ArtResin for tumblers and haven't had fish-eye issues at all. It's self-leveling and doesn't get those little craters that some of the cheaper epoxies leave behind, and it cures clear.
That said, a lot of tumbler problems come down to surface prep and humidity, not just the resin, so control those too. But some brands really are just garbage for tumblers, and ArtResin has been the consistent one for me.
Who should use it
ArtResin makes sense for a tumbler maker who values a predictable clear coat more than the lowest material cost. I found it easier to level than bargain resin, which reduced the time I spent chasing surface defects after the pour.
Skip it if you are still practicing on disposable projects and material cost matters more than finish consistency. It also will not rescue contaminated surfaces, inaccurate ratios, incomplete mixing, or poor working conditions.
What affected my results
I got the best finish when the tumbler was clean, the two parts were measured carefully, and the mixture was combined thoroughly without scraping unmixed material into the final coat. Temperature, humidity, dust, and silicone contamination can all change the result, so I treat the resin as one part of the process rather than the only variable.
