How to batch a cocktail
Batching a cocktail is simply multiplying a single-drink recipe by the number of servings. The trick is keeping the ratios exact, which is hard to do in your head with three or four ingredients. Enter the ounces of each ingredient in one drink and the number of drinks you need, and the calculator scales every ingredient and totals the batch, then tells you how many 750 ml bottles of the base spirit that takes, since a bottle holds about 25.4 ounces.
Work in ounces or milliliters, but stay consistent. A standard 750 ml bottle is 25.4 ounces, so a batch calling for 40 ounces of spirit needs a little over one and a half bottles.
Do not forget dilution and fizz
A cocktail made one at a time gains water from the ice as you stir or shake it, which softens and lengthens the drink. A pre-batched mix skips that, so it can taste harsh unless you either add roughly 10 to 15 percent water to the batch or serve it over plenty of ice. Carbonated ingredients are the other exception: soda, tonic, sparkling wine, and beer go flat in a batch, so leave them out and top each glass fresh.
