Bowling Score Sheet

Print a proper bowling score sheet for league night or the backyard lanes. Set how many bowlers you have and it builds a full 10-frame line for each, with the small ball boxes on top and room for the running total below, including the extra ball in the tenth frame.

Print at 100%. Each bowler gets a 10-frame line: put each ball in the small top boxes and the running total in the space below. The tenth frame has three boxes because a strike or spare there earns extra balls.

How bowling scoring works

A game is ten frames. In frames one through nine you get two balls to knock down all ten pins. Knock them all down on the first ball and it is a strike, marked X, worth ten plus your next two balls. Clear them with the second ball and it is a spare, marked with a slash, worth ten plus your next one ball. Miss some and it is an open frame worth just the pins you knocked down. That bonus for strikes and spares is why you cannot fill in a frame total until you have thrown the next ball or two.

The tenth frame is special: if you strike or spare there, you earn extra balls, up to three throws total, which is why this sheet gives the tenth frame three boxes instead of two. Add each frame onto the last for a running total, and the number in the final frame is your game score.

Using the sheet

Set your number of bowlers and print at 100 percent. Mark each ball in the small top boxes (X for a strike, slash for a spare, the pin count otherwise) and write the running total in the space below each frame. Print extras so a full lane never runs short.

Frequently asked questions

How do you score a strike in bowling?

A strike is worth 10 pins plus the total of your next two balls, so a strike can be worth up to 30. You mark it with an X and cannot finish that frame total until two more balls are thrown.

Why does the tenth frame have three boxes?

Because a strike or spare in the tenth frame earns extra balls, up to three throws total, so the frame needs room for all of them.

How many bowlers fit on one sheet?

This generator makes one to six full 10-frame lines. Print more than one sheet for a bigger group or a whole league.

How do I print it to size?

Print at 100 percent scale so the frames stay full width. It is plain black on white, so it photocopies cleanly for a whole lane.
