Logitech MX Ergo Trackball

9.0/10 Our verdictHands-on tested · not gifted

The thumb trackball to get. Wireless is rock-solid, never had a connection issue, and it doesn't randomly fall asleep like the cheap ones. Around $100, but worth it — run it wired if you're paranoid.

Why the MX Ergo over a cheap trackball

For a thumb ball, the MX Ergo is simply the best one. The wireless is solid — I've never had connectivity issues — and it doesn't randomly go to sleep and make you wiggle it awake like the cheap trackballs do. Around $100, but worth it, and you can run it wired if you're paranoid about wireless.

That random-sleep problem is mostly a super-cheap-trackball thing. Logitech and Kensington just don't have it, which is a big part of why stepping up is worth the money.

What I liked

  • Rock-solid wireless connection
  • No random sleep/wake nonsense
  • Adjustable tilt angle
  • Wired option if you prefer

What to know

  • Around $100
  • Thumb-ball takes adjustment if you're new
  • Heavier than a normal mouse
  • Single-device pairing at a time

Common questions

Does it randomly disconnect or sleep like cheap trackballs?

No — that's mostly a bargain-trackball problem. Logitech and Kensington don't have it.

Can I use it wired?

Yes, if you'd rather not rely on wireless.
