Why it's so much quieter
My old window AC ran at maybe 65 decibels on low, loud enough to wake me up every time it kicked on. A coworker mentioned the Midea U-Shaped was built to be quiet, so I looked it up: it uses an inverter compressor, runs about 42 dB on low, and the U-shape lets the window close almost all the way, which also blocks outside noise.
I got the 8000 BTU version for At its current price. Install took 25 minutes solo, and it genuinely sounds quieter than my refrigerator. First full summer of actually sleeping through the night.
