A free online tally counter for anything you need to count: people through a door, inventory, laps, reps, stitches, or steps in a recipe. Tap the number to count up, add as many separate counters as you like, and everything saves automatically in your browser so it is still there when you come back. No app to install and no sign-up.
Tap the big number to add one; use the minus button to go back. Rename a counter by typing in its label. Counters save automatically in this browser.
What a tally counter is for
A tally counter, sometimes called a click counter, does one job well: it keeps a running count so you do not have to hold the number in your head. The classic use is counting people, at a door, an event, or a gym, but it works for anything you count in ones: inventory and stock takes, laps or lengths, exercise reps and sets, knitting or crochet stitches, cars in a traffic survey, birds on a count, or which step of a recipe you are on. Tap to add one, and the total is always in front of you.
This one runs in your browser, so there is nothing to install and nothing to buy, and because it saves automatically you can close the tab and come back to the same counts later. You can also run several counters at once, which is handy when you are sorting into categories, counting yes and no responses, or tracking a few different things in the same session.
Tips for accurate counting
Add a separate counter for each thing you are tracking and rename it so you do not mix them up. Use the minus button to correct a miscount rather than starting over, and reset a counter to zero between sessions. On a phone, the big number is a large tap target on purpose, so you can count quickly without looking down.
Frequently asked questions
How do I use the tally counter?
Tap the large number (or the plus button) to add one, and the minus button to go back. Add a counter for each thing you are tracking, and rename it by typing in its label.
Does it save my count?
Yes. Your counters and their names save automatically in this browser, so you can close the tab and return to the same counts. Clearing your browser data will reset them.
Can I count more than one thing at once?
Yes. Click Add counter to create as many independent counters as you need, which is useful for sorting into categories or counting a few things in the same session.
Is it free and do I need an account?
It is completely free, runs in your browser, and needs no app or sign-up.
