On a Dobsonian a wide-field low-power eyepiece is the one that frames big objects and makes star-hopping easy, since the wide view drifts slower on an undriven mount. Astronomers look for a wide apparent field (68 degrees or more) at a long focal length, with good edge sharpness.

What should you look for in wide field eyepiece for a Dobsonian telescope?
A few things separate a good wide field eyepiece for a Dobsonian telescope from a frustrating one: wide apparent field, long focal length, edge sharpness, and eye relief. Weigh these before you buy.
- Wide apparent field: 68 to 82 degrees for an immersive, easy-to-sweep view.
- Long focal length: around 24 to 30mm for low power and a wide true field.
- Edge sharpness: fast Dobs stress the edges, so a well-corrected eyepiece helps.
- Eye relief: comfortable relief, especially if you wear glasses.
