The kitchen gear I actually use & recommend (2026)

✅ Bought & used for months/years 🍳 Tested on a real (small) counter 🤝 No gifted products

I cook in a small kitchen, so gear has to actually earn its counter space. These are the pieces I've used for months or years and would buy again — including where the cheaper option is genuinely the smarter buy.

Yosukata Carbon Steel Wok

Best for glass-top and electric stoves

I've used this on my glass top for about a year and a half and it's been great. It comes pre-seasoned, so you skip the whole bluing process, and the flat bottom sits flush on the glass with no wobble. I worried about scratching the stovetop, but as long as you set it down gently it's been totally fine — and it's usually well under budget.

Best value · Burner

Duxtop 9600LS Induction Cooktop

Best backup / single burner

Around $100 and solid. I've used mine for about 2 years — it heats fast and the temp control is accurate. It's way better than the $30 Amazon ones that overheat and shut off randomly. Don't go cheaper than this or you'll end up with one that barely works. The pricier units are nice but overkill if you just need a reliable backup burner.

EPICA Stainless Steel Compost Bin

Best countertop compost bin

I switched to this after dealing with the soggy-bag situation for way too long. It's stainless, so you just rinse it in the sink when you empty it, and the charcoal filter in the lid keeps the smell from taking over the kitchen between trips to the pile. It's smaller than a grocery bag, but I fill it every few days — which is honestly the perfect pace.

Juicing

Chef'n FreshForce Citrus Juicer

Best for frequent juicing

I've used this one for about 3 years now and it's held up way better than the cheap juicers I had before. It gets noticeably more juice out, too. If you juice a lot, it's worth the extra few dollars over the bargain-bin versions.

Big-ticket

Traeger Pro 575

Best for app-controlled smoking

For smoking brisket with app control, the Pro 575 is solid — WiFi-enabled so you can monitor and adjust temp from your phone, it holds temp steady, and there's room for a full packer brisket. It's around $900. Want to save money? The Weber Smokey Mountain (~$400) makes great brisket too, but you manage temp the old-school way with vents. Pellet smokers like the Traeger are the easiest to learn on: load pellets, set temp, done.

Small kitchens

Toolf Expandable Dish Rack

Best for tiny counters

I've hand-washed everything in my studio for about two years, and this rack has been perfect for the tiny counter next to my sink. It folds down super narrow when you don't need it and stretches out for a bigger load, so you get your counter back between washes. It comes with a pop-off utensil holder, and the whole thing fits inside the sink too if you'd rather go that route.

Why trust this list? Small kitchen, real budget, no freebies. I've used every one of these for months or years, and I'll tell you when the cheaper option is the smarter buy (see the Duxtop and the Weber note above).
