How the long division sheets are built
Each problem is drawn in the standard long-division bracket, the divisor to the left and the dividend under the bar, with the quotient going on top and room underneath to show the steps. Choose a one-digit divisor (2 through 9) for students just learning the algorithm, or a two-digit divisor for a real challenge. The dividend size sets how many digits the number being divided has, from two up to four. With No remainders selected, every dividend is a clean multiple of its divisor so the problems come out even; allow remainders for realistic practice where answers include an R.
Teaching long division
Long division is really a repeating four-step cycle: divide, multiply, subtract, bring down. Students who struggle usually have a shaky step somewhere in that loop rather than a problem with division itself, so watch for where it breaks down. Solid multiplication facts make the whole process far easier, because every divide-and-multiply step leans on them, which is why practicing times tables alongside long division pays off. Start with one-digit divisors and even answers, then add remainders, then move to two-digit divisors.
