Print ruled notebook paper in wide, college, or narrow ruling, with or without a margin line. Set the ruling, the margin, the line color, and the page size, and it draws to-scale lined paper ready to print at 100 percent, for schoolwork, letters, journaling, and handwriting practice.
Prints to scale at 100% (turn off fit-to-page). College ruled (7.1 mm) is the standard for most notebooks; wide ruled (8.7 mm) suits younger writers and larger handwriting.
Wide ruled vs college ruled vs narrow
The only real difference between the standard rulings is the space between lines. Wide ruled leaves about 8.7 mm (roughly 11/32 inch) between lines and suits younger students and anyone with larger handwriting. College ruled is tighter at about 7.1 mm (9/32 inch), fits more lines per page, and is the default for most notebooks and older students. Narrow ruled is tighter still at around 6.4 mm (1/4 inch) for maximum lines per page. Pick the one that matches your handwriting size, or the ruling a class or teacher requires.
Printing it accurately
Choose the ruling and page size, then print at 100 percent with fit-to-page turned off so the line spacing stays true. Keeping the page within the printable area (about 7.5 by 10 inches on US Letter) prevents the printer from shrinking it. The red margin line sits about 1.1 inches from the left edge, matching standard notebook paper; turn it off for plain ruled paper or for letters.
What to use it for
Ruled paper is the everyday workhorse: homework and essays, handwriting and penmanship practice, letters and journaling, note-taking, and lists. A light blue line is the classic, easiest-on-the-eyes choice; gray or black gives more contrast for photocopying or for writers who prefer a stronger guide.
