Common camping load patterns
| Trip pattern | Plan around | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Day trip | Phones, camera, lights | Weight may matter more than AC output. |
| Weekend tent camping | 12V fridge, lights, phones, CPAP | Overnight medical-device runtime and cold-weather battery performance. |
| RV overflow power | Electronics and selected small appliances | Do not assume a station can run an entire 30A or 50A RV service. |
| Solar-supported stay | Daily load plus realistic solar recovery | Shade, panel angle and the station’s solar input ceiling. |
Choose for your use case
Prioritize weight and USB-C for electronics.
Calculate CPAP and fridge runtime with margin.
Match panel voltage and input power to the station.
A five-step buying check
- Measure or look up running watts for each device.
- Estimate daily hours, including overnight equipment.
- Calculate at least one no-sun day of reserve.
- Check the heaviest startup load.
- Verify panel voltage, connectors and input limits before buying a bundle.

Quick answers
How many watt-hours do I need for camping?
Multiply each device’s watts by hours used, add the results, divide by expected efficiency and add a reserve. A device-by-device calculation is more reliable than a trip-length label.
Will a 1,000W power station run a camping fridge?
The 1,000W figure normally describes inverter output, not runtime. Check the station’s watt-hour capacity plus the fridge’s running and startup demand.
Can I recharge at camp with solar?
Yes, when the panel voltage and connectors are compatible and sunlight is sufficient. The station’s solar input limit caps charging power even with a larger array.
